The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Dominic Eritano (ASN: RA-35924380), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During the night of 23-24 June 1951, near Sobangsan, Korea, during an attack on Hill 717, Company B was completely pinned down by hostile automatic weapons and small arms fire. Voluntarily leaving his position, Corporal Eritano moved to another which afforded better observation of the enemy emplacements; and locating a machine gun site, boldly advanced, single-handedly killing its crew and neutralizing the gun’s effective fire. Later in the engagement, the enemy counterattacked and the company positions were in great danger of being overrun. Corporal Eritano, again boldly revealing himself to the hostile fire, remained on the hill fighting a delaying action while his unit made its withdrawal. When last seen the valiant soldier was courageously shooting point blank at the onrushing enemy. Corporal Eritano’s consummate gallantry reflects the highest credit upon himself and is in keeping with the most esteemed traditions of the military service.
