The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to First Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Sergeant First Class] Ralston K. Dennis (ASN: 0-2262908), United States Army, for heroic achievement as a member of Company E, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, on 18 May 1951 in the vicinity of Chaun-ni, Korea. Due to the intensity of the enemy attack, the battalion was ordered to withdraw, leaving Company E to cover the remainder of the battalion. As the enemy attack increased, Company E was then ordered to withdraw with the 2d platoon under Lieutenant Dennis covering the withdrawal. Although all of the enemy fire was concentrated on his platoon, Lieutenant Dennis, with complete disregard for his personal safety, moved through this intense enemy fire to deploy his platoon and to encourage his men. Through his fearless efforts his men were inspired to superhuman efforts which took a heavy toll upon the numerically superior enemy force. The inspirational leadership displayed by Lieutenant Dennis reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
