The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class James J. Creaser (ASN: 20126899), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force at Arundel, Solomon Islands, on 18 September 1943, in aggressively covering the safe evacuation of the crew members of a disabled Marine tank with automatic fire during which he killed five of the enemy. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
