The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Master Sergeant Peter C. Costopoulos (ASN: ER-31164360), United States Army, for heroic achievement as a member of Company B, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 22 March 1951 in the vicinity of Kanuy-Dong, Korea. On that date Sergeant Costopoulos led his squad in an assault upon an enemy-held hill. Despite the intense enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire, he led his squad to within several yards of the enemy positions. At this point the hostile fire became so intense that the unit was forced to withdraw. Sergeant Costopoulos, without regard for his personal safety, exposed himself to enemy observation to render assistance to his wounded comrades. The heroism and outstanding courage demonstrated by Sergeant Costopoulos on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Massachusetts.
