The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Clifton Moses Carr, Jr. (ASN: RA-31350943), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 1 April 1951, near Soyo-Dong, Korea, Corporal Carr, a wire lineman, was given the mission of constructing advance wire lines to a forward battalion. After laying the wire half way to the position, he was confronted with an enemy mine field. Because of the urgent need for communications, he volunteered to continue laying the wire across the field, despite the known danger confronting him. Suddenly, the vehicle in which he was riding struck a cleverly concealed enemy mine. Although mortally wounded in the explosion, he refused medical aid until two other wounded men were treated. His determination to complete his mission in spite of the known danger confronting him was instrumental in the establishment of the vitally needed communications. Corporal Carr’s gallantry and heroic devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
