The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Robert Nicholas Young (ASN: 0-15068), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility as Assistant Commanding General of the 3d Infantry Division during the period from 1 November 1944 to 15 January 1945, and as Acting Commanding General, 3d Infantry Division from 13 December 1944 to 7 January 1945. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Young reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army.
