The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Charles Cawetzka, United States Army, for most distinguished gallantry on 23 August 1900, while serving with 30th Infantry, U.S. Volunteers, in action at Sariaya, Luzon, Philippine Islands. Private Cawtzka single-handed, defended a disabled comrade against a greatly superior force of the enemy.
