The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit to Colonel (Armor) Lawrence Granger Smith, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from 27 June 1950 to 17 March 1952. (This award supercedes the award of the Legion of Merit (First Oak Leaf Cluster) to Colonel Smith, for service from 27 June 1950 to 2 November 1950, published in General Orders 125, General Headquarters, Far East Command, 20 May 1951.)
