The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Robert Gale Breene, United States Army Air Forces, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. Major General Breene has served since 10 November 1942 as the Commanding General, Service of Supply, in the South Pacific Area. His services to the country in this capacity have been outstanding. From that date until the present time, the forces under his command have been employed in the procurement and distribution of supplies and materials within this area. By the efficient organization and employment of his forces and facilities, he had been largely responsible for the continued success of operations against the enemy. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Major General Breene and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
