The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Winfred Davies (ASN: 32255259), United States Army, for gallantry in action on **** 1943, about three miles northeast of ****, Italy. Technician Fifth Grade Davies, Medical Detachment, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, observing a wounded soldier lying in an exposed position in front of our troops, crept forward in the face of heavy small arms fire and administered first aid. He then proceeded to move the wounded soldier to a position of cover. Technician Fifth Grade Davies’ actions, accomplished with coolness and deliberation in the face of almost certain death, are a tribute to the tradition of the Medical Corps.
