    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Joseph P. Kaczor (ASN: 32047939), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters, XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 2 April 1945, in Germany. On this date, while a prisoner of the German Armed Forces, Private First Class Kaczor escaped from confinement, armed himself, and with an enlisted man attempted to locate the American lines. Along the way he intercepted and captured an enemy patrol of three men, overcame two sentries and captured them, and later captured 34 German soldiers. Upon reaching the American lines he reported the location of a pocket of German troops which information resulted in their liquidation. His action displayed unusual coolness and courage and are a great credit to the Armed Forces of the United States.
