The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Edward S. Slominski (ASN: 36358701), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with Company H, *** Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division, on 12 November 1944, in the vicinity of Weippy, France. Private Slominski was a member of a squad in the First Platoon of Company H, supporting the assault company in an attack on the enemy in the village of Weippy. As the squad moved up, Private Slominski hear an inexplicable noise in a building alongside the street dominating the route of approach. With his squad leader’s permission, Private Slominski pointed his pistol at the German gunners, holding a grenade in his other hand, and all three surrendered. Private Slominski’s intrepid act undoubtedly saved the lives of many of his comrades and protected the vanguard of the assault from destruction. His heroic conduct reflects distinct credit upon himself, and exemplifies the highest traditions of the military service.
