McDowell (ASN: 1746262), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Supply Sergeant McDowell distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 311th Infantry Regiment, 78th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, France, 15 October to 5 November 1918, in bringing up ammunition and rations to the front lines under heavy shell and machine gun fire.
