The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry), [then First Lieutenant] Tony Bizzaro, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 22d Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, in action in the vicinity of Buchet, Germany, on 6 February 1945. Captain Bizzaro was leading his company in attack when it suddenly encountered merciless machine gun fire. He personally led an assault upon the emplacements, killing and capturing four Germans himself while his men cleaned out all remaining resistance at that point. Shortly thereafter, his unit met heavy mortar and artillery fire. He went forward alone to reconnoiter the enemy installations. After directing mortar fire on the positions, he led an assault and completely eliminated the strongpoint. The unusual personal courage and valorous, effective leadership displayed by Captain Bizzaro are in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service.
