The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Howard K. Reagan (ASN: 20418247), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 9th Reconnaissance Troop, 9th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 25 July 1944 in the vicinity of La Bosnardiere, France. While on a patrol across an exposed area, Private First Class Reagan saw one of the men seriously wounded by enemy sniper fire. From a position of comparative safety, Private First Class Reagan crawled across the open area and proceeded, with two other members of the patrol, to move the man to a position of safety behind a vehicle. Attempting to administer first aid, the group came under enemy rifle and machine gun fire. Private First Class Reagan engaged the enemy in a fire fight from his exposed position until the first aid had been completed and the wound man’s evacuation made possible.
