The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Ronald E. Hill (ASN: RA-7004522), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 89th Medium Tank Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 26 November 1950 in Korea, Sergeant First Class Hill led a dismounted patrol into enemy-held territory to reconnoiter hostile positions. Guiding his men through heavy small arms, automatic weapons and mortar fire, he frequently moved ahead to exposed vantage points to observe enemy activity. When one of his men was severely wounded and had to be left behind, he led the patrol back to friendly lines and then returned with a medical aid man to evacuate his wounded comrade. Sergeant First Class Hill’s courageous leadership and selfless devotion to duty were an inspiration to his men and reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
