(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant William H. Chapman, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as First Lieutenant, Torpedo Officer, Computer Operator and Gun Control Officer of the U.S.S. BONEFISH (SS-223), during the THIRD War Patrol of that submarine in the forward areas of the Pacific from 12 January 1944 to 15 March 1944. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
