The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Arthur F. Kueker (ASN: 18070999), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 357th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division. On 14 June 1944, Sergeant Kueker and one man advanced against a mortar and machine gun position that were holding up their unit with intense fire. Sergeant Kueker and his companion, without thought of personal safety, worked their way to a point from which they knocked out the mortars with hand grenades. Then, having no more hand grenades, they turned upon the machine gun position and assaulted it with their bayonets. In the ensuing action Sergeant Kueker was killed. By his gallantry and aggressiveness, Sergeant Kueker made possible the continued success of his unit.
