The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain John D. Logeman (AFSN: FR-78135), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4D Aircraft Commander in Southeast Asia on 23 August 1967. On that date, Captain Logeman flew as number four in a flight of F-4 aircraft striking a vital railroad assembly area. While evading attacks from hostile aircraft, intense antiaircraft fire, and threats from surface-to-air missiles, Captain Logeman successfully interdicted this important military target. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Logeman reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Logeman (AFSN: FR-78135), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as an F-4D Aircraft Commander of the 555th Tactical Fighter Squadron on 26 October 1967. On that date, Captain Logeman led the fighter escort for a photo reconnaissance flight over a highly defended airfield. With complete disregard for his own personal safety, Captain Logeman aggressively engaged a superior number of hostile aircraft in aerial combat and successfully destroyed one MiG-17. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Logeman has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

On that date, Captain Logeman led the first F-4D night radar bombing raid against a highly defended railroad deep in unfriendly territory. Located near extremely rugged terrain, the target area was obscured by numerous thunderstorms and poor visibility conditions. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Logeman reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Brigadier General John D. Logeman (AFSN: FR-78135), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commandant, United States Air Force Fighter Weapons School, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada; as Commander, 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing; and as Vice Commander, TWELFTH Air Force, Bergstrom Air Force Base, Texas, from 28 October 1982 to 30 August 1986. During this period, General Logeman’s insistence on realistic training increased aircrew quality and greatly improved the combat capability of the Tactical Air Forces worldwide. He demonstrated exceptional foresight and exemplary managerial skills in guiding the largest of Tactical Air Command’s numbered air forces to new levels of readiness, capability, and achievement. His efforts have been of critical importance in ensuring the maintenance of the credibility of the United States military capability in the Caribbean and Central American region and will have a long-lasting effect on our national defense posture. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Logeman reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
