The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Evans Elmer Warne (AFSN: 0-54430), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a Forward Air Controller near Long Dien, Republic of Vietnam, on 3 February 1968. On that date, Major Warne, in the face of ground fire directed at his aircraft, made repeated low passes over unfriendly positions, firing smoke rockets and dropping smoke grenades to screen friendly movement from sniper fire. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Warne reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
