The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Brigadier General John P. Condon (MCSN: 0-4986), United States Marine Corps, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from 15 April 1958 to 1 April 161 as Deputy Director for Operations, J-3 Division, Headquarters, United States European Command. Exercising a high degree of leadership, professional skill and enthusiasm, Brigadier General Condon provided guidance and inspiration to his subordinates and displayed exceptional ability in analyzing and resolving difficult and involved problems in the field of unified command operations. His expert knowledge, professional competence, intelligence and dynamic aggressiveness have been significant factors in assuring the successful participation of this headquarters in the numerous exercises in which the United States European Command played a principal role. Brigadier General Condon’s recommendations in the complex field of international politico-military affairs and command relationships were as clear in expression as they were sound in concept and provided a positive basis for progress in these vital areas. Through his sustained and distinguished achievements, he contributed immeasurably to the accomplishment of the mission of this Headquarters, and increased significantly the operational readiness of the United States European Command, thereby reflecting great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
