The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Colonel Jones Edward Bolt (ASN: 0-460075), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4C Aircraft Commander over North Vietnam on 6 January 1967. On that date, Colonel Bolt led four aircraft against an emplacement of hostile guns. Leading his flight, Colonel Bolt destroyed six hostile gun sites. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Bolt reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Colonel Jones Edward Bolt (ASN: 0-460075), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as the Aircraft Commander for an F-4 Phantom Tactical Jet Fighter near Tram Trung, North Vietnam, on 18 April 1967. On that date, Colonel Bolt was diverted from his fragged target to strike a hostile convoy of 50 trucks. Upon arriving at the target area, he immediately became subjected to concentrated hostile anti-aircraft fire. Despite the extremely heavy fire, and with complete disregard for his personal safety, Colonel Bolt delivered his ordnance directly on target. Through outstanding aerial skill, he successfully evaded the hostile fire and inflicted heavy damage on the enemy. Final damage assessment on departure was two road cut, four destroyed trucks, ten secondary fires, and one heavy caliber anti-aircraft site destroyed. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Bolt reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

In these vitally important assignments, the dynamic leadership and dedicated efforts of General Bolt resulted in highly effective tactical air combat support for free world forces within the Republic of Vietnam. During this period, General Bolt supervised and exercised control of eighty-five percent of the United States Air Force combat sorties flown in the Republic of Vietnam and adjacent areas. He was held as a Prisoner of War until his return to U.S. Military Control at the end of hostilities in April 1945.

On that date, while piloting as FAC engaged in an extremely hazardous rescue support mission for a downed F-105 pilot, Colonel Bolt successfully disbursed hostile aircraft from the rescue site. In spite of anti-aircraft fire directed at his flight and his prolonged presence in the high treat area, he completed his mission in a highly successful manner. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Bolt reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
