The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Charles Angelo Lombardo (AFSN: FV-723990), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Wild Weasel F-105 Electronic Warfare Officer near Kep Airfield, North Vietnam, on 17 July 1967. On that date, Major Lombardo assisted in the aggressive engagement of numerous surface-to-air missile sites and anti-aircraft artillery radar guidance facilities in support of a strike against a vital rail yard. Major Lombardo was so effective in his radar suppression mission that not one hostile missile was fired in close proximity to the strike force and his efforts directly contributed to the overall mission, resulting in the destruction of a vital transportation facility. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Lombardo reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
