The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major James Edwin Light, Jr., United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as an F-105 Pilot with the 357th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, in action near Hanoi, North Vietnam on 14 December 1967. On that date, Major Light was assigned the mission of interdicting an extremely vital highway and railroad bridge. In spite of unusually heavy anti-aircraft fire, surface-to-air missile launches, and intense MiG activity, Major Light delivered his ordnance directly on target denying the use of this important transportation segment to the North Vietnamese. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Major Light reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
