The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major James Edwin Light, Jr., United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as an F-105 Pilot with the 357th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, in action over North Vietnam on 14 February 1968. On that date, Major Light commanded a force of F-105 aircraft assigned to strike a vital highway and railroad bridge deep within North Vietnam. In accomplishing the successful interdiction of his target, Major Light exhibited superior airmanship and exceptional air discipline as he accurately delivered his ordnance and helped insure the safe return of all aircraft despite a heavy concentration of surface-to-air missiles, MiG interceptors and antiaircraft artillery fire. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Major Light reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
