The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant Robert B. Medeiros, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-123K Flight Mechanic at Song Be Airfield, Phuoc Long Province, Republic of Vietnam on 14 May 1972. On that date, while flying combat emergency resupply missions, Sergeant Medeiros’ aircraft came under intensive hostile ground fire. Sergeant Medeiros’ skillful and expeditious performance of his duties under extremely hazardous and adverse conditions contributed greatly to minimizing the time the crew spent on the ground. His performance greatly aided the safe and successful completion of a hazardous combat mission. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Medeiros reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
