The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant Adrian P. Hawkshead, Jr., United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating In aerial flight as an Aerial Combat motion Picture Photographer over Southeast Asia, on 7 March 1970. On that date, while flying a night armed reconnaissance mission over hostile supply routes leading to South Vietnamese cities, Sergeant Hawkshead with complete disregard for his own personal safety photographed the destruction of 10 trucks and the damaging of 2 others. Despite extremely heavy and accurate antiaircraft fire, he documented a most devastating blow to the hostile forces. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Hawkshead reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
