The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Bobby Glover (MCSN: 1938144), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving with the First Platoon of Company G, Second Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Rein.), FMF, in connection with operations against insurgent communist (Viet Cong) forces in the Republic of Vietnam. During a sweep operation on the Phu Thu Peninsula near Phu Bai on 28 February 1966, the Second Battalion became locked in combat with a hard core Viet Cong force. In order to reach their part of the Company’s objective, Sergeant Glover and his squad were required to maneuver one hundred meters through a relentless hail of enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire. Moving to a small brush line about fifty meters from the well entrenched enemy, Sergeant Glover was preparing his men for the final assault when two Viet Cong on the other side of the brush threw grenades into the Marines’ position. Four men, including the Corpsman, were wounded in the ensuing explosions. Reacting instantly and with complete disregard for his own safety, Sergeant Glover took the two Viet Cong under fire and killed both. Without hesitation, he raced about twenty meters to one of the casualties and administered first aid amid the withering fire. Undaunted by the extreme danger, he then hurried to assist another wounded man. Reorganizing the remainder of his squad, he successfully assaulted the Viet Cong position and inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy. By his intrepid fighting spirit and courageous concern for his comrades at great risk of his own life, Sergeant Glover upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
