The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Ronald L. Kondler (AFSN: FV-3136304), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a UH-1F helicopter pilot near Dak To, Republic of Vietnam, on 23 July 1967. On that date, Captain Kondler took part in the rescue of a long-range reconnaissance team which was under heavy attack by a hostile force of unknown size. In spite of intense ground fire, the helicopter landed amid the surrounding unfriendly forces and picked up six members of the team, thus preventing their imminent capture or death. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Kondler reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
