By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Alfred V. Jules (ASN: 3546), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Jules distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Sanitary Detachment, 102d Machine-Gun Battalion, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Belleu Bois, France, 22 – 30 October 1918. Although sick and suffering from the effects of gas, he continued to render services to the wounded.
