(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Third Lieutenant Frank H. Young, Jr., United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the Philippine Guerrilla Forces, in action against enemy forces in Mindanao, Philippine Islands, from 13 December 1943 to 20 October 1944. Third Lieutenant Young returned to the Philippines on the submarine U.S.S. Narwhal in December 1943, with the mission of setting up a radio station and organizing the guerrillas on the Philippine Island of Tawi Tawi. He stayed there until General MacArthur’s return to the Philippine Island of Leyte in October, 1944. Third Lieutenant Young’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
