(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Ronald T. Wangberg, Jr. (ASN: 6860889), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, Philippine Division, in action against enemy forces in the vicinity of Abucay Hacienda in the Philippine Islands, on 22 January 1942. On that date Private Wangberg voluntarily attempted to knock out a Japanese machine gun nest. Moving close to the enemy, he hurled two grenades before he was killed by machine gun bullets. Private First Class Wangberg’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
