During the mission, the crew’s B-24 Liberator Bomber was hit by German flak and cannon fire from fighters. Staff Sergeant Storovich valiantly manned his guns during the ensuing battle with German fighter airplanes. After losing the number one radio and the plane’s hydraulic systems, the Pilot landed at a Canadian base outside of Bari, Italy. After a few days spent at the base working on the plane, repairs were made that enabled the plane and crew to return to England. The personal courage and zealous devotion to duty displayed by Staff Sergeant Storovich on this occasion have upheld the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 8th Air Force, and the United States Army Air Forces.
