The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Paul R. Keisler (ASN: 34386178), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 19 January 1945 in Luxembourg. During the attack on Nocher, Luxembourg, Staff Sergeant Keisler, a platoon guide, assumed command of his platoon when the leaders became casualties and gained the objective. After organizing defense positions he exposed himself to severe hostile fire to inspire his men to hold their newly won objective despite fierce enemy counterattacks until he was wounded. His initiative, courage, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
