The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant [then Private First Class] James A. Boumbouras (ASN: 33696620), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 18 January 1945 in Luxembourg. During the attack on Dahl, Luxembourg, after his section was held up by severe enemy fire, Staff Sergeant Boumbouras took command after the leaders became casualties. Despite the closeness of the enemy he made a patrol for better positions. Finding none, he came back to stay in an exposed position, organize litter squads, and speedily evacuate six of his wounded comrades. His gallant actions, courage, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
