The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Lloyd C. Bloomer (ASN: 0-1178074), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States from 6 August 1944 to 31 December 1944 in France and Luxembourg. During this period, Lieutenant Bloomer as Executive Officer for a firing battery of Field Artillery performed his duties in an outstanding manner. Soon after entering combat the battery was strafed by enemy planes. Lieutenant Bloomer calmly ordered all men to positions of safety and then directed the fire of the machine gunners to rout the enemy. On another occasion Lieutenant Bloomer left the security of his position despite heavy enemy artillery fire to administer first aid to two seriously injured soldiers, and later, despite the continued shelling, he proceeded to obtain the necessary data for a shell report. The bravery, leadership, and loyal devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Bloomer were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
