The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Gregg Omar Hanson, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a F-4D Aircraft Commander over hostile territory on 2 June 1972. On that date, Lieutenant Hanson was participating in a flight on a mission to protect search and rescue forces recovering a downed crewmember deep in hostile territory. The outstanding airmanship and initiative displayed by Lieutenant Hanson aided immeasurably in the recovery of the downed crewmember. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Hanson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
