The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Jon David Black (AFSN: FR-55413), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a F-4D Aircraft Commander deep within unfriendly territory on 24 October 1967. On that date, Captain Black flew air cover for a strike against a high priority target. While inbound to the target area, the strike force was threatened by two flights of hostile aircraft. Captain Black’s flight aggressively engaged the attackers in aerial combat, scored a probable destruction on one hostile aircraft, and enabled the strike force to deliver all ordnance on target. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Black reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
