The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Joseph Busa (ASN: RA-15282231), United States Army, for gallantry in action while a member of Company H, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, in action against the enemy near Kumchon, Korea, on 2 August 1950. Corporal Busa’s unit was being subjected to intense enemy machine gun and automatic weapons fire. Seeing his Battalion Commander wounded, Corporal Busa, with complete disregard for personal safety, drove his 1/4-ton vehicle through intense enemy fire and safely evacuated the officer. Returning to the lines Corporal Busa twice again braved the enemy fire disregarding the fact that his unit had withdrawn and safely evacuated two more wounded comrades. By his gallant action and complete disregard for his own safety, Corporal Busa saved the lives of three comrades who would have fallen into enemy hands, thereby reflecting the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
