The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel James Ignatius Baginski, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. Colonel Baginski distinguished himself as Southeast Asia Airlift Commander, SEVENTH Air Force Supervisor of Airlift, U-Tapo Airfield, Thailand, from 12 February 1975 to 29 April 1975. In this important assignment, Colonel Baginski was personally responsible for the administration and execution of the entire aerial re-supply effort of Cambodia and the Air Force’s support of the Saigon evacuation. In spite of the hostile environment and operations which constantly approached personnel and equipment limitations, Colonel Baginski sustained the life-line for Cambodia and provided relief to thousands who were seeking refuge from Saigon. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Baginski reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
