The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Woodrow A. Abbott (ASN: 0-1307490), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, General Abbott distinguished himself as Commander, 307th Strategic Wing, U-Tapao Airfield, Thailand, from 9 July 1969 to 2 July 1970. In this important assignment, the forceful leadership, and the outstanding and dedicated efforts of General Abbott were significantly displayed in the strategic direction of the B-52 bomber and KC-135 tanker force in Southeast Asia operations. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Abbott reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
