The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Chief Machinist’s Mate Rupert O. Cavenah, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism while serving as Chief Machinist’s Mate aboard the Submarine Chaser U.S.S. C-223, on 12 June 1924, in putting out a shipboard fire and rescuing a comrade. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
