The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Glenn S. Cochenour (ASN: RA-27747490), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with Company G, 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, in action in Korea, on February 15, 1951. On that date, Sergeant Cochenour’s unit had the mission of seizing and securing an enemy held hill on which the enemy had deeply-entrenched defensive positions. Leading the First Platoon in the attack, Sergeant Cochenour, with complete disregard for his own safety, advanced aggressively under intense enemy machine gun and small arms fire. Within twenty-five yards of the hill objective, excessive casualties forced Sergeant Cochenour to fall his men back to reorganize. After reorganizing and friendly fire had been placed on the hill, he led this platoon in another advance, and took the objective. The gallantry of Sergeant Cochenour in this action was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
