The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 8, 1918 (amended by act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Richard Zock (AFSN: FR-66055), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving with the 13th Bombardment Squadron, Clark Air Base, Philippine Islands, PACIFIC Air Forces, in Southeast Asia on 29 November 1967. On that date, Captain Zock, as Pilot of a B-57, conducted a highly successful night, single-ship attack mission against several hostile gun positions guarding a vital route segment. Despite a low cloud cover, mountainous terrain and extremely intense ground fire, he repeatedly attacked the active gun sites which were firing hundreds of rounds at his vulnerable aircraft. With complete disregard for his own personal safety, he pressed on for four dive bomb passes through the flak, silencing two gun positions and damaging two others. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Zock has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

On that date, Captain Zock successfully attacked a moving convoy of trucks heavily laden with vital supplies for the insurgent movement in the Republic of Vietnam. Despite the hazards of darkness, marginal weather, surrounding high terrain, and anti-aircraft fire, Captain Zock made repeated passes on the hostile convoy until the vehicles and their supporting ground forces were entirely demolished. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Zock reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Despite intense anti-aircraft fire and an inoperative bombsight, Captain Zock made repeated passes on a hostile convoy, destroyed eight trucks, and severed a vital road segment. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Zock reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
