The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain William Redwick Austin, II (AFSN: FR-71588), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in air operations against an opposing armed force as a F-4D Pilot on 12 August 1967. On that date, Captain Austin aggressively engaged MiG-17s in the defense of the strike force thus enabling the force to reach their assigned target and successfully complete their mission. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Austin reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
