His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

When his platoon leader was seriously wounded, Sergeant Ellis fearlessly left a place of comparative safety, proceeded over terrain swept by heavy enemy artillery and machine gun fire, and evacuated the officer to an area where aid could be administered. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

His fearlessness, gallantry, and unhesitating action enabled his unit to launch a successful attack. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
