The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant General Richard C. B. Haking, Royal British Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. General Haking rendered conspicuously meritorious service as Chief of the British Mission, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the Chief of the American Mission in all questions of policy, aiding with rare tact and a genial personality the cordial relations between the English-speaking missions. He saw 52 months of service in the field, Commanded the XI Army Corps, and is the hero of the relief of Lille in 1918.
