The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Etienne F. M. Guerin, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. During the assault of the 5th Army Corps in the St. Mihiel offensive, 12 September 1918, General Guerin Commanded the 15th Division of Colonial Infantry, French Army, as a part of the 5th Army Corps. By his superior skill and leadership, his resolute execution of orders, his loyal and aggressive devotion to the operations of the 1st American Army, and his high courage in combat, he contributed in a determining manner to the assault of the 5th Army Corps.
