The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel Guy Dawnay, Royal British Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Head of the Staff Duties Section of the General Staff at General Headquarters American Expeditionary Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Dawnay was an important factor in the victorious termination of the war by his brilliant military attainments and unremitting zeal. He constantly manifested the utmost consideration for the American units attached to the British Armies, aiding materially in their training and thereby rendering invaluable services to the American Expeditionary Forces.
