The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant John Zavodsky (ASN: 1746508), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 311th Infantry Regiment, 78th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vieville-en-Haye, France, 26 September 1918. Although he was wounded, Sergeant Zavodsky remained with his company until its objective was reached before seeking first-aid treatment.
